Microsoft Windows 11 Not Supported for 2021 Software

At this time, we are unable to officially support our 2021 software products on the new Microsoft Windows 11 operating system for the upcoming tax season.  While preliminary testing against the preview versions has shown positive results, the final release candidate of Windows 11 has not yet been released to us and therefore we have been unable to test our 2021 software for full compatibility with Windows 11.  After the final release candidate for Windows 11 is released to us, we will commence our compatibility testing.  The projected official release of Windows 11 is late 2021 and as such we do not anticipate officially supporting the new operating system for the 2021/2022 tax season. We will communicate any change in the support policy for our 2021 software once Microsoft officially releases the operating system and our compatibility testing is complete. Click here for more information on Windows 11.

1120 C returns receiving a diagnostic about the payment date

The requested payment date of the amount due with Form 7004 must be after today's date and on or before the due date of the return. (2)

These returns are due today, please use this workaround:

On the forms tree locate the 1120-EF form

Please override this date to 4/14/2021, and create the e-file again

Federal Form Updates

This morning, we released federal form updates relating to both the unemployment exclusion and the 5/17 due date.

Important: The IRS has stated that there is no need to file an amended return (Form 1040-X) to figure the amount of unemployment compensation to exclude. The IRS will re-calculate and send the difference.

For states who have already declared their intentions on these issues, we are targeting a 3/29 release for those state forms. Please refer to our "Latest Impacts" landing page or to state government websites for individual state impacts.

Direct Debit Payment Dates: Please be aware that the IRS still has not changed their business rule for Direct Debit payment dates, and cannot currently accept Direct Debit payment dates that are after 4/15/21 (even though our software now has been updated to allow dates between 4/15 and 5/17). Until the IRS updates their rule for this, any returns with Direct Debit payment dates after 5/15 will be rejected by the IRS.

Pre-Ack and Bank Product Season Readiness

Today marks the beginning of the tax season for those of you offering Pre-acknowledgement advances through our bank partners.  We have prepared a FAQ for you to review with common questions for our pre-ack product.

If you haven’t enrolled to offer bank products yet, our partners are still open and accepting enrollment applications for all products.

Once you have enrolled, check out our FAQ below for pre-ack advance products

How do I  apply for pre-ack inside of the return?

On the main information, Select bank products and check the box for the appropriate bank (your active bank).  You will then visit the bank application and complete the necessary steps, including selecting advance and the taxpayers preferred disbursement.  Once that is completed you will efile the return.

What is EFC reject 91?

EFC 91 is an EFC reject you will receive when the bank rejects the Pre-ack return.  To fix these rejects the print the ack report and search for the bank rejection, this will tell you what is the reject is and you can fix and resend.

NJ State News: Automatic Extension for 2020 CBT Returns for Certain Fiscal Tax Year Filers

One of the changes resulting from the enactment of P.L. 2020, c. 118 (which was signed into law on November 4, 2020), was a change in the original due date of a Corporation Business Tax return to 30 days after the due date of the federal return. In general, this means that a return is due on the 15th day of the month following the due date of the federal return. This may impact some taxpayers' original due dates.

The 2020 Corporation Business Tax returns (Forms CBT-100, CBT-100U, BFC-1, BFC-1-F, and CBT-100S) are currently in the process of being updated to incorporate the new law's changes, which is delaying the start of the filing season.

Taxpayers with returns that have an original due date that falls anytime between November 15, 2020 and March 15, 2021, are granted an automatic extension to file their tax returns by April 15, 2021. A taxpayer will not be charged late filing penalties if the return is filed by April 15, 2021 (the extended due date). This extension applies only to the filing of the return and does not extend the time to make all required payments. (Note: If a due date falls on a weekend or a legal holiday, the return and payment are due on the following business day.)

Affected taxpayers that apply for an extension of time to file have 6 months from the original due date to file their tax returns. If you are filing form CBT-100, CBT-100U, or BFC-1 (BFC-1-F) and your year ended on July 31, 2020, you must file your tax return on or before June 15, 2021, which is 6 months after the original due date of December 15, 2020. If you are filing Form CBT-100S and your year ended on July 31, 2020, you must file your tax return on or before May 15, 2021, which is 6 months after the original due date of November 15, 2020.

California e-file Business Rule Rejection S0000-095 Issue on 11/13/2020

The State of California, Franchise Tax Board’s e-file program experienced an issue on Friday, November 13, 2020 after 1:30 PM PT that caused tax returns to be rejected by business rule S0000-095. The issue has been corrected as of 4:35 PM PT that day.

Business Rule S0000-095:

Our records indicate that you are not authorized to submit a tax return of a type and for a tax year specified in the Submission Manifest [CA-SubmissionManifest].

If you have any outstanding submissions that were previously rejected that day based on business rule S0000-095 and have not been re-submitted and accepted, please re-transmit the return.

E-file Deadline April 15th Midnight EDT

We strongly encourage you to transmit your e-files at least two hours before the midnight (eastern daylight time) deadline.
As the April 15th deadline approaches, the processing volume at the IRS will increase. Both return volume and return size will affect processing time. While you are accustomed to receiving your Federal acknowledgements within a one hour time-frame, that turnaround time will increase as the deadline approaches. You may see your acknowledgements take from 2 to 4 hours, and possibly longer.

This is why we suggest that you send returns periodically throughout the day. This will help spread out the volume and also help eliminate some of the 'deadline rush' which also impacts IRS processing.

Taxpayers have until Monday, April 15, 2019 to file their 2018 returns and pay any taxes due.
Taxpayers requesting an extension will have until Tuesday, October 15, 2019 to file.
C-corporation income tax returns (IRS Form 1120) are due on April 15, 2019 for C corporations that operate on a calendar year, extended deadline is October 15, 2019.  The deadline for C corp returns is the 15th day of the fourth month following the end of the corporation's fiscal year if the corporation is on a fiscal rather than a calendar year.
For calendar year Estates and Trusts, file Form 1041 and Schedule(s) K-1 on or before April 15, 2019.  For fiscal year estates, file Form 1041 by the 15th day of the 4th month following the close of the tax year. For example, an estate that has a tax year that ends on June 30, 2019, must file Form 1041 by October 15, 2019. If the due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, file on the next business day.

Expectations for Agency ACK Response Beginning This Weekend

Beginning this weekend, agencies will begin to actively manage the increasing volume of e-files as we approach the Individual filing deadline. This agency process, known as "throttling," ensures that both federal and state e-filing pipelines continue to flow smoothly while handling the increased volume.

During this period, you can expect some slower ACK responses than are typical for the rest of the season; however, slowed agency responses are normal for this time period.

The Two-Step Verification Process

In October 2018, Refunds Today (or National Tax School) will incorporate a Two-Step Verification Process when logging into certain solutions. This security process leverages two authentication factors to increase assurance that the individual attempting to access vital data is who they declare to be. The authentication factors that Refunds Today (or National Tax School) use are:
  • Possession factors (Something you have, such as a key fob, smartphone, or external email account)
  • Knowledge factors (Something you know, such as username and password or answers to security questions)

The Importance of a Two-Step Verification Process

Cybercriminals would have a difficult time accessing your client’s data. Here’s why: after entering the password, our two-step verification process requires first-time users to enter a one-time passcode that is sent to a registered/validated telephone or email. That code must be entered within five minutes to verify the user’s identity. This criminal would need physical control of the user’s mobile device or would need immediate access to the user’s email address. Here is the current list of Small Firms Solutions that are impacted by the two-step verification process:
  • Online Check Printing (OCP)
  • Support Site for Refunds Today
  • National Tax School

E-file Deadline April 17th Midnight EST

We strongly encourage you to transmit your e-files at least two hours before the midnight (midnight Eastern time) deadline.

The nation’s tax deadline will be April 17 this year – so taxpayers will have two additional days to file beyond April 15.

As the April 17th deadline approaches, the processing volume at the IRS will increase daily.

Taxpayers have until Tuesday, April 17, 2017 to file their 2017 returns and pay any taxes due. The deadline is later this year due to several factors. The usual April 15 deadline falls on Sunday this year, which would normally give taxpayers until at least the following Monday. However, Emancipation Day, a D.C. holiday, is observed on Monday, April 16, giving taxpayers nationwide an additional day to file. By law, D.C. holidays impact tax deadlines for everyone in the same way federal holidays do. Taxpayers requesting an extension will have until Monday, Oct. 15, 2018 to file.

For calendar year Estates and Trusts, file Form 1041 and Schedule(s) K-1 on or before April 17, 2018.  For fiscal year estates, file Form 1041 by the 15th day of the 4th month following the close of the tax year. For example, an estate that has a tax year that ends on June 30, 2018, must file Form 1041 by October 15, 2018. If the due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, file on the next business day.
